Down the Throat!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Merry Christmas!\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a free short story of submarine action in World War II.\u00a0 I originally wrote this to submit to<a href=\"http:\/\/thefirstline.com\" target=\"_blank\"> thefirstline.com<\/a> which runs a contest every quarter.\u00a0 They give you the first line for your story and you build the rest.\u00a0 If you are looking for a place to submit your shorts to, I would try there first.<\/p>\n<p>I missed the deadline for this particular contest, but I eventually finished the story I titled &#8220;Down the Throat.&#8221; The USS Hammerhead runs into a Japanese destroyer.\u00a0 While the crew and the scenario are fictitious, there actually was a Hammerhead that made war patrols in the Pacific.\u00a0 She actually did sink the destroyer escort named in this story.\u00a0 I had a fictitious destroyer originally, but changed the name so the two combatants would be factual.
